Afternoon at Cosley Zoo

Sunday afternoon we were looking for something fun to do with Squishy. After hearing about it from several locals we decided to head to Cosley Zoo in Wheaton, IL. Squishy’s been asking to go to a zoo since it warmed up for spring. It’s just a short 20 minute drive for us. So Cosley Zoo is perfect for an afternoon outing!

The zoo is set on 5 acres with ponds and paths. They have a great duck pond, a variety of farm animals as well as birds and animals native to IL. We just happened to arrive in time for duck feeding. For $1 a cup you can buy portions of food to feed to the ducks. The kids love it and it’s a great photo opportunity as well! Squishy loved throwing the food as far as he could to the ducks swimming out in the pond.

All of the enclosures are clean and well kept, with clear signs to let you know what you could find in each area.

There are pretty shaded paths which are nice on a warm day for letting your little one walk about.

I had a moment with this bluejay. I think he liked my phone case.

The caboose car was a hit with our lover of all things train related.

You can go inside with your kids and let them explore the educational tools and puzzles. The tools and puzzles are a fun way for the whole family to learn about animal tracks.

The gift shop had a nice selection of souvenirs and snacks. There is also a small cafe/concession stand for snacks and ice cream treats. Squishy chose a rainbow push pop. Next time I think we’ll pack a lunch to enjoy in the picnic area.

I am not receiving any compensation for writing this post. I just wanted to let parents who may not have heard about it know what a great place there is right here in the western suburbs. Squishy sure loved it and is already asking to return!
Where are some of your favorite suburban places to visit? Please let me know in he comments below!
Have a great day and thanks for stopping by.
